Silica Based Sorbents

In order to simplify the choice of SPE approach, ISOLUTE® sorbents are grouped into four main types based on their retention mechanism: nonpolar, mixed-mode, ion exchange and polar. Each of the ISOLUTE chemistries exhibits unique properties for retention of analytes through a variety of molecular interactions (often referred to as 'mechanisms') between the analytes and sorbent. The most common retention mechanisms in SPE are based on Van der Waals
forces ('non-polar' interactions), hydrogen bonding and dipole-dipole forces ('polar' interactions) and cation - anion interactions ('ionic' interactions). Each sorbent offers a unique mix of these properties which can be applied to a wide variety of extraction problems.

Non-polar SPE Columns
The ISOLUTE family of both endcapped and non-endcapped non-polar sorbents are used to extract organic compounds from aqueous matrixes. The non-endcapped sorbents offer secondary interactions, which are particularly useful for extraction of basic compounds and other polar analytes from aqueous matrices. Endcapped sorbents are also available for applications where the secondary silanol interactions are not
required.

To select a suitable sorbent for a given application screen several sorbents and select the one with the highest recoveries and cleanliness.

All ISOLUTE non-polar SPE sorbents are available packed into a range of SPE column formats, from 25 mg/1 mL to 10 g/70 mL, to match your application. ISOLUTE C18, C18(EC), MF C18, C8, C8(EC), C2, C2(EC), CH(EC), PH, PH(EC), CN, CN(EC) are available in bulk format. All are available in three pack sizes (25 g, 100 g and 1 Kg).

Polar SPE Columns
Polar SPE sorbents are generally used to extract analytes with polar groups from non-polar matrices.

There are many functional groups that can exhibit polar interactions, and have different selectivities. These include dipole/dipole, dipole/induced dipole, and hydrogen bonding. Polar interactions are particularly useful for the separation of molecules that are very similar in structure (e.g., structural isomers).

All ISOLUTE polar SPE sorbents are available packed into a range of SPE column formats, from 25 mg/1 mL to 10 g/70 mL, to match your application. ISOLUTE CN, CN(EC), SI, DIOL, and NH2 are available in bulk format. All are available in three pack sizes (25 g, 100 g and 1 Kg). ISOLUTE SI is not available in 25 g).

Mixed-Mode SPE Columns
The ISOLUTE family of mixed-mode sorbents are designed for the extraction of drugs from biological fluids. The dual retention mechanism is provided by non-polar and cation exchange functionalities. Extraction of biological matrices using single retention mechanisms has been shown to give high levels of co-extracted materials. Robust methodologies and high extract cleanliness are possible with the dual retention mechanisms provided by mixed-mode sorbent.

Mixed-mode sorbents are available for extraction of basic (HCX family) and acidic (HAX) drugs from biological fluids

Ion Exchange SPE Columns
A range of both weak and strong anion and cation exchange sorbents are available.

They can be used to extract compounds capable of carrying a positive or negative charge from both aqueous and non-aqueous solutions.

All ISOLUTE ion exchange SPE sorbents are available packed into a range of SPE column formats, from 25 mg/1 mL to 10 g/70 mL, to match your application. ISOLUTE NH2, SAX, CBA, SCX and SCX-2 are available in bulk format. All are available in three pack sizes (25 g, 100 g and 1 Kg).
