The method, now accredited to ISO15189 standards, uses EVOLUTE® EXPRESS WCX for extraction before chromatography and mass spectrometry. Sample preparation was performed using Biotage® Extrahera™ to further improve the method robustness. Minimal carryover was observed and accurate recovery was demonstrated for all analytes at values near clinical decision limits.
The authors state that this method is currently only validated for catecholamine analysis, however the LCMS/MS demonstrates capability of quantifying catecholamines and metenephrines in a single analysis.
The method was developed by Anna F. Robson, Joanne E. Duffy and Craig Webster, Department of Clinical Chemistry and Immunology, Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, Birmingham, UK.
