Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) can be found in a number of water types, such as drinking water, surface water, ground water and wastewater. There are serval types of extraction techniques that can be implemented to remove them from water for measurement including liquid-liquid extraction (LLE), continuous liquid-liquid extraction (CLLE) and solid phase extraction (SPE). With LLE and CLLE there is little selectivity within the methods for difficult matrices or other compound interferences.

With the widespread clinical use of antidepressant drugs comes the need to accurately measure therapeutic lev-els to determine proper dosage, as well as check for toxic levels and patient compliance. More and more laboratories are shifting their therapeutic drug monitor-ing from liquid extraction to solid phase extraction. A large clinical laboratory has automated the process of extracting these drugs from serum using the RapidTrace SPE Workstation.

This study shows that the Biotage® 4790 Automated Extractor system, along with the Atlantic™ DVB disk, the DryDisk® separation membrane, and the DryVap® Concentrator System can be successfully used to analyze for Nonyl Phenol and Bisphenyl A in water samples. This sample preparation process is fully automated, requiring minimal human intervention, and allowing for reductions in sample processing costs.

Using the TLC to step gradient is simple and fast requiring only a minute or so to enter the data into the Isolera and create the method. The methods are scalable to larger cartridges increasing purification savings even more.

This poster presents a method for detection of approximately 100 drugs and metabolites in urine using mixed-mode polymeric cation exchange solid phase extraction (SPE).
Four different glucuronidase enzymes and several incubation times and temperatures were evaluated to determine optimum hydrolysis conditions for seven commonly detected glucuronide metabolites. Samples were subjected to offline hydrolysis and SPE (EVOLUTE® EXPRESS CX, Biotage, Charlotte, NC) and results compared to an SPE plate that incorporates in-well hydrolysis (EVOLUTE HYDRO CX, Biotage).
