    Evaporation

Removing the solvent from your sample

Once a reaction is complete and the target of the synthesis has been purified to the required level, the solvent in which the sample is dissolved needs to be removed. In many laboratories, this can be the most time consuming and laborious part of a synthetic procedure. Rotary evaporators are ubiquitous in chemistry laboratories, and most chemists have spent many hours carefully tending evaporations to remove solvents, watchful for bumping that can result in lost samples and the need to repeat syntheses.

Evaporation the Biotage way - Speed without bumps

In the Biotage organic synthesis workflow, solvent removal is performed by the V-10 Touch evaporator. Utilising rotation, a thin-film of sample is created that combined with a vacuum and heat makes the V-10 Touch able to remove even the stubborn solvents in minutes. As a result, the V-10 Touch is the fastest evaporator across the range of organic solvents. Short evaporation times compared to other traditional methods means that the V-10 Touch does not consume a lot of energy, making for a greener operation. The thin-film operation means that bumping does not occur, so the system runs perfectly unattended, and automation combined with a simple interface and optional carousel and liquid handling make the V-10 Touch incredibly simple to use, and capable of drying down even large volumes of liquid. The clever software also allows the evaporating to dryness of complex samples, such as a range of preparative HPLC fractions with variable solvent compositions.

    Biotage® V-10 Touch

Biotage® V-10 Touch rapidly dries samples dissolved in both aqueous and organic solvents. It easily evaporates HPLC fractions from purification, high boiling point solvents from synthesis and features a dry-down onto silica technique for easier dry load capabilities prior to purification.

    Resources

Organic chemists synthesizing new molecules follow a general workflow. Biotage has developed tools for every step of the process, with the entire workflow in mind. This dedicated suite of products vastly expands the range of options in order to truly accelerate discoveries of new molecules for future innovations.

Learn more about the Biotage workflow from one of the users: "Biotage instruments are indispensable in the lab towards this end. Using the entire workflow, we’re able to do things more efficiently. I can run eight samples in the microwave at one an hour, whereas before, it would take me over twelve hours to run eight samples. I can knock out 16 purifications with the Isolera and then dry them on the V-10 quicker than using a rotary evaporator and round-bottom flasks without risk of solvent bumping. I use the entire Biotage suite when working in the lab."

As a global leader in drug discovery
using non-standard peptides, Peptidream Inc. is deeply engaged in research and development to contribute to a better society.
"Using our unique drug discovery search system PDPS (Peptide Discovery Platform System), we synthesize trillions of non-standard peptides, enabling high-speed evaluation. For concentration, we chose the Biotage® V-10 Touch. There are other equipment available to remove non-volatile solvent such as DMSO (dimethylsulfoxide), but we chose the V-10 for its speed."
