Environmental responsibility
Our approach
Approach
Biotage is committed to reducing climate impact through energy transition and sustainable logistics. Since 2024, we have supported the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), aligning our emission reduction targets with international climate standards. Baselines are in place for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and data collection for Scope 3 is ongoing.
Most of the electricity used at our Uppsala, Cardiff, and Cambridge sites comes from renewable sources, including own solar panels that further expand capacity. To cut transport-related emissions, we prioritize sea freight over air freight and continue to optimize shipping routes for efficiency.
Environmental responsibility is integrated into Biotage’s product development and manufacturing. At our Cardiff site, solvent use is reduced through continuous optimization and methods for solvent reuse are under development to lower environmental impact and resource footprint.
Product development within the company follows an environmental checklist that evaluates energy efficiency, material use, chemical impact, and recyclability, making sustainability part of the innovation process.
We are also improving packaging and waste management through internal processes and targets aimed at increasing recycled materials in consumables such as Biotage® Sfär columns and SPE products, while reducing manufacturing waste across sites.
