Protein A and Protein G bind to the Fc region of IgG antibodies with various selectivity to IgG subtypes. As a result, Protein A and protein G PhyTip columns can be used for purification of IgG antibodies and IgG fragments that include the Fc region. However, due to higher selectivity to certain IgG subtypes and species, Protein G is the preferred choice over Protein A in some cases for instance for human IgG3 or rat IgG2a.
